Loeffler Announces $57 Million for Over 60 Colleges in Georgia

Press Release

Date: May 1, 2020
Location: Atlanta, GA

U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) announced today that 64 institutions in Georgia that serve large numbers of minority or low-income students will receive $57 million in funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery and Economic Stability (CARES) Act, and $43 million of the funding is going to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in Georgia.

"I've heard from colleges and students across Georgia about the need for relief during these uncertain times. Through the CARES Act, we're able to provide some stability. I'm especially proud that a majority of this funding will support Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which are an incredibly important part of Georgia's higher education system," said Loeffler, a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. "This funding will help these institutions continue to serve the thousands of students who have had their college education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic."

The following HBCU's are receiving a total of $43 million:

Albany State
Clark Atlanta
Fort Valley State
Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine
Paine College
Savannah State University
Spelman College
Earlier this month, Loeffler announced Georgia schools and colleges would receive over $105 million in emergency funding, also from the CARES Act.
